Retail Committee – Business Owner 911 Awareness Campaign
In 2005 the Retail Committee worked with area business owners, homeowner associations and the Dallas Police Department to launch a 911 awareness campaign.
The committee met with store managers, business owners and the Dallas Police to address crime in neighborhood shopping centers. They found that 911, Dallas’ #1 tool for impacting crime, was underutilized compared to smaller population areas with less crime.
Crime decreases dramatically in homeowner neighborhoods where crime watch programs are implemented. The Retail Committee 911 Campaign reinforced that business owners and homeowners should call 911 at our retail centers just as homeowners have learned to do in residential neighborhoods. Calls should be made not just when an incident occurs but also when suspicious activity is noted before a crime occurs.
The committee developed a flyer and distributed it throughout Lake Highlands business and shopping centers. Communicating this information is ongoing. Please download the flyer here, Notice911, and give it to your favorite restaurant and store managers. The more people we have sharing detailed descriptive information with the police through 911, the better they can serve our community. When we all work together, we can make a difference.
We're always looking for volunteers!
